Zoom!™ Teeth Whitening
Nothing says “beautiful and healthy” like a gorgeous white smile. At Santa Teresa Dental we use the Zoom™ whitening process.
Zoom™ whitening process reverses the natural discoloration that comes with age as well as the use of tobacco, wine, coffee, and other products.
When considering teeth whitening, patients have two convenient options: in-office whitening, which will give you a gorgeous smile in about an hour and in-home whitening in which you are provided with custom trays to use at home for 15-30 minutes a day over a specific number of days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Whitening is a bleaching process that reverses the discoloration that comes with age, coffee stains, tobacco stains, etc. While a beautiful bright smile is achieved, no natural tooth structure is lost.
Generally, teeth whitening procedures are successful in about 90 percent of patients, though they may not be an option for everyone. Yellow-ish hued teeth will probably bleach well, brownish-colored teeth may bleach less well, and grayish-hued teeth may not bleach well at all.
Likewise, if you have had dental bonding or tooth-colored fillings placed in your front teeth, whitening may not enhance your smile as the whitener does not affect the color of these materials.
There are two types of whitening available, in-office and in-home. We offer Zoom!™ Whitening as our in-office option of choice. It takes about an hour and can brighten your teeth up eight shades whiter. The process is safe and effective and the results are immediate.
The Zoom!™ Whitening procedure
- It begins with a short preparation covering your lips and gums so that only your teeth are exposed.
- From there, the whitening gel is applied.
- A Zoom!™ light is then directed at the teeth to penetrate the stains and safely remove the discoloration.
- The gel and light are applied three times.
In about 45 minutes, you’ll emerge from Santa Teresa Dental with a spectacular smile.
As with any tooth whitening product, Zoom!™ is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.
Sensitivity during the treatment may occur with some patients. The Zoom!™ light generates minimal heat which is the usual source of discomfort.
On rare occasions, minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the procedure but always dissipate.
Additionally, we can supply you with anti-sensitivity toothpaste and gel for use prior to treatment.
By following some simple post whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before.
To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend flossing, brushing twice daily and occasional touch-ups with Day White whitening gels. These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest.
For those wanting to whiten teeth at their own pace, take-home whitening is another option.
Custom-fit trays are made, the prescription whitening agent and a kit are given to the patient to be worn for a few hours 15-30 minutes a day at home.
The process takes 9-18 days and typically whitens teeth up to six shades brighter.
